Derby, Lichfield and the River Trent

Derby is on the Derwent, which joins the Trent about seven miles downstream (almost half way to Nottingham).

Rather like Milan and the Po, Lichfield is in the Trent Valley but the closest the river gets to the city is about five miles away, on the outskirts of Alrewas (pronounced all-ree-was).
